Distance Learning courses offer participants the chance to study anywhere in the world, they are open to students of any age, and they offer flexibility in terms of family and work commitments. This mode of learning is particularly suited to young graduates who cannot afford moving from their homes to carry out post-graduate studies. Thinking global is the way forward in terms of employment and study. This workshop is aimed at academics who are about to embark on preparation for distance learning courses but colleagues who are already involved in teaching distance learning are also welcome to attend so that best practices across disciplines at the university can be shared.

Workshop format:

Part 1: Presentation of case study- MA Translation Studies Distance Learning course (class sizes, understanding work in a virtual learning environment and teaching and learning methods). Best practices and innovative methods in the curriculum

Part 2: Interactive, hands on session. Participants should bring one or two unit descriptors of their choice to work on. Guidance and advice will be offered on how to construct an effective distance learning course.

Please note that a £15 charge will be levied against University of Portsmouth Departments where a member of their staff has booked but not attended, unless DCQE has been notified of their absence at least 48 hours prior to the time of the event. In order to cancel, please email acdev@port.ac.uk or phone 023 9284 3328.
